Windelo, hulls design by Barreau & Neuman
All the Windelo catamarans are recognizable by their impeccably fine-shaped and well-balanced hull, designed to enhance performance and seaworthiness.
Built for the pleasure of sailing and exploring, they permit a better performance than other catamarans of this size.
Barreau profile
The Windelo catamaran definitely bears the signature of the architects Christophe Barreau and Frédéric Neuman, notably having an excellent performance/comfort ratio. The assorted choices made by Windelo team regarding electric engines and environmentally friendly materials as well as the space management reconfirm the performance and innovation of our catamarans.
“The Windelo team is driven by a real desire to optimize the hull and they have given us the resources to do this”, says Christophe Barreau. We carried out CFD calculations and through digital modeling we created hull developments that reduce drag.”
Slim buoyant floats
The lengthened bouyant hull flares out above the waterline in such a way as to be sensitive to a moderate load. The peaks are slim, and the hulls narrow for greater waterline length. Volume is also provided by angling the floats 6° off the vertical axis. The load-bearing volume extends outward thereby increasing transverse stability.
Controlled proportions
The well-contained proportions of the nacelle compliment the very slender floats. With a bridgedeck clearance of 90 cm, the nacelle was positioned further aft to improve the boat’s passage through the sea.
The center of gravity was relocated aft contributing to the longitudinal stability and performance of the Windelo, which surfs easily and safely.
Good weight centering and good taut lines lessen movement when pitching – a true sign of performance and comfort.
Daggerboards
The long narrow daggerboard makes sailing upwind easy. By retracting, it increases the downwind speed and makes the boat safer in heavy weather.
When designing the boat, all the architects’ decisions were driven by the desire to optimize the seaworthiness of the Windelo catamarans.
Because they are stable and light, they can carry a generous sail plan. This is maneuvered from an innovative helm station in a new, pleasant, and practical forward position where the skipper enjoys a full view of the sea and the bows.
The skipper sails from a sheltered position and can really enjoy the thrills of steering.
Windelos are undoubtedly fast, easy to handle cruising catamarans, built for sailing seas all over the world, in safety and comfort.
