Our ecological approach

Our love of the planet has been the driving force behind our environmentally friendly boats. We board innovative boats built mainly of recycled and bio-sourced materials.

We aim to reduce the environmental impact of our catamarans by 50%. We achieve this goal through several technical innovations implemented on our boats (eco-friendly composite, boat weight, motorization, and other features).

Recycled and Bio-Sourced Materials

Sustainability and ecology are some of the watchwords of Windelo and we have taken an uncompromising and innovative approach to construction in order to achieve this. Our groundbreaking use of sustainable volcanic basalt and PET – made from recycled bottle plastic in the hull construction – puts Windelo at the forefront of the green revolution.

Our new construction site brings another unusual aspect of our project to the fore: an eco-design approach applied to our materials and construction processes.

The Windelo catamarans structure is made from a new innovative environmentally-friendly composite sandwich. We carried out studies in partnership with researchers from Mines d’Ales with a view to using the most eco-friendly materials.

Our eco-friendly composite sandwich marries basalt fiber and PET foam from recycled plastic bottles and reduces carbon emissions by nearly 50% compared with traditional GRP composite manufacturing methods.

Green Energies: Sustainable Energy Sources

Building a catamaran that works in harmony with nature lies at the heart of the Windelo concept. To achieve this an electric motor is essential – yet it is also vital to have a good cruising range. Combine green energies – hydro generation, solar panels, wind turbines – and generators the Windelo can cruise more than 1100 nautical miles at 6 knots under power.

As for the renewable resources, they also provide all the onboard energy needed, making your sailing experience pleasant and respectful of the planet.

Energy autonomy varies according to the lifestyle and habits of each individual user. However, aboard Windelo catamarans, comfortable eco-friendly sailing is a reality. Our cutting-edge catamarans blend high performance with eco-friendly design, incorporating a powerful, robust, and efficient electric propulsion system.
